Ruth Wilson qualifies for TeamGB

The feeling I had stood waiting at the ETU sprint qualifier at Grafham, is something I will never forget. As I lined up with the other 220 athletes hoping to qualify for the European Championship, the cold, crisp November morning chilled me to the bone. My stomach was doing somersaults. After taking up the sport of triathlon last year this was only the third Duathlon I had entered the nerves were unbearable… Continue reading

Ed Lidgett’s New York Marathon

When looking at booking to attend the Marathon in New York there were so many different things to think about, so I chose to use 209 Events Limited Set up by Mike Gratton who won the London Marathon in 1983 in a time of 2.09.43. This saved any stress of organising hotel, race entry, flights, and bus to the start line. Mike Gratton took us for a short run around Central park for a look at the last 2 miles on the Friday before the race to show us were to have a nice sprint finish from (haha that never happened).

Lincsquad Youth & Adult Awards 2013 – The Layas

After the mega success of the 2012 combined Crimbo party and awards night we decided to make this years awards a stand alone event. If you need a recap of the night (or not in the case of some of our karaoke heroes!) there are more pics on the Lincsquad Facebook page. Continue reading

Lincsquadder Oliver Saxon reviews his 2013

As I begin training ahead of 2014, I ought to really review my 2013 season.

My first full season’s training in the offthatcouchfitness stable was tough but enjoyable. Continue reading

Lauren & Joshua shine at Brigg Sprint Triathlon

Sunday 29th September 2013 saw the 6th running of the Keyo Brigg Sprint Triathlon.

A third successive year sell out with 264 athletes registered to race.

The event ran smoothly with thanks to the hard work from the Events Committee and many members, family & friends who marshalled on the day. The feedback received from athletes, spectators, marshals & BTF officials was outstanding, not just on the event but how supportive and enthusiastic everyone was.

On to the results ………

“Spirit of the Race” awards were also made to a marshall & a competitor that displayed the highest levels of sportsmanship.
The marshall award was hotly contested with a number of nominations including;
– Andy Calpin & Jon Dixon for their shouts of encouragement on the bike route at the level crossing
– Anne Wood for her enthusiasm on the run course
– Mark York for lending competitor his own bike after a mechanical failure
– Kerry Padley who turned up to spectate, but after over hearing of a marshall shortage on the bridge, grabbed a hiviz and went to help keep the crowd out of the way of runners.
Although the award on the day went to Kerry Padley, all nominations will get a special Lincsquad prize soon.

The athlete nomination was a quite simply a one horse race, when I heard the story it had to be the one, Michael Barnett, was half way through his run and on for a Personal Best, he passed a young competitor struggling on the run with an injury, he selflessly, gave up on his own race to make sure the young lad made it back and completed the triathlon. Michael just missed out on his time goal in doing so, but I know this award meant a great deal to him & his family. You can read more about Michael on his blog Smoker2Triathlete

Once again many thanks to all the Lincsquad members who helped organise, set up, marshall and pack down for this great event, without you all, we just couldn’t do it. Lincsquad rocks !!!

Regards

A very proud Chairman

Lincsquad And Youth Academy Awards 2013

Yes its the Lincsquad awards and this year we need YOU to nominate club members by browsing the categories below and thinking back to who beat you, who made you work harder, who did you see out there training, helping or doing anything else (not necessarily a racer!) that put the club and themselves on the map! The categories are…..

The SANDMAN……..

Sandman ……..Sunny September in Anglesey

It was decided some time ago in early 2013 after recovering from a cartilage operation only to bounce in to a double Achilles strain that I would defer my Slateman entry to compete in the Sandman later that year….. Not realising that it just happened to be my 17th wedding anniversary on the same day!! Whoopsy……

After a fairly event free last few months it had given me time to go to spectate and support our fellow Lincsquad competitors up and down the country as they have done for me over the past few years, this I have enjoyed immensely however it was finally time to get back on it and get ready for the race. The Vitruvian (Half Ironman distance)

vitruvian-triathlonThe Vitruvian (Half Ironman distance)

If the Dambuster had whetted your appetite earlier in the year then here’s an event with a double helping of the infamous Rutland Ripple.
It’s also the event that has you finally using that cheap head-torch you’ve bought from a petrol station as you fumble your way to the 05:00 bike racking.
In previous years the sun has risen to reveal a thick mist over the lake that makes sighting challenging to say the least. Fortunately, not this year, in fact this year’s race wasn’t far from ideal conditions.
