Amazingly, the sun shone throughout the first TT of the season. It was lovely to greet familiar and new faces and see the relaxed camaraderie (appropriately socially distanced of course). The sun was a bit misleading and marshals and riders alike were chilled by the end of the event. Except for hardy Yorkshireman, Robert Marley. There was a nasty headwind on the return leg which was very draining for the riders.
Jacob Riby got proceedings off to a flying start riding without the hindrance of an adult escort. He turned in an outstanding 23:57 and ended up 4th, beating some notable opposition. Rachel Brothwell followed him out and came home triumphant in first place for the ladies. Actually, she ended up being the only female after some late withdrawals but she richly deserved her number one spot with an excellent ride.
We were very pleased to welcome a number of guests to the TT one of whom went on to steal the laurels. Toby Bartlett put in a fabulous ride coming home in 21:01 in trying conditions. 2nd and 3rd were well known characters Sheehan Quirke (22:39) and Chris Ware (23:10). Chris took top points for the club.
Camilla Morgan got the prize for the worst job of the night: doing the Covid health check for riders. I think she believes the script was deliberately written as a tongue twister. Some revision for next time I think. Thank you so much to all the marshals who cheerfully carried out their duties even when frozen to the marrow. A huge thank you to previous TT organisers Pam and Jon Challen, who very kindly turned out ready to advise, help marshal and pick up the pieces.
