TT10 18th August

I was somewhat aghast when roadworks appeared in Hibaldstow with traffic lights in both directions.  Imagine my dismay when I got to Scawby Brook and found more roadworks and lights over the start and finish line.  The latter was resolved by moving further down the road so that the lights did not impinge on the course.  Donna and Jeff nobly manned the section in Hibaldstow and were kept very busy noting all the stoppages.  A huge thank you to them both.  The results took some disentangling.

The field was comparatively small with 2 no shows; Andrew Brown did not start due to mechanical issues; and poor Ben Creasy not only got stopped by lights in both directions but then got a flat tyre and came home in the recovery wagon (alias Jeff’s car).  The small field was probably a good thing in the circumstances and all the riders returned safely in one piece.

The Flying Quirke turned in another fabulous performance, finishing in 20:36.  Also showing consistently good form was 2nd place Simon Abdy on 21:25.  3rd and 4th spots were fiercely contested between Jon Challen and Chris Ware who were separated by only 3 seconds with Chris coming out ahead on 22:16.  Jayne Baldwin shone again, being first lady home in 26:14.

Congratulations to all the riders on managing the changes involved with good humour and good sense.  I am extremely grateful to all the marshals and the Time Team who had to manage a man down and double up roles.

The 1st of September will be the last in the series so get your entries in!
