TT Rd 6 Report “No Quitters……….little knickers!”

Conditions for round 6 LQ10/2 Lincsquad TT were dry. The MET office recorded wind speeds at 13mph with 22mph gusts.

37 TT riders sped along 9.8miles or 15771.6ms, (whichever came first) hoping to get their front wheel crossing the finish line, closely followed by the back wheel. On the night, the racers ripped past faster than a wetsuit’s seams can split after the holiday season. “You just never know” are two words on my mind that summed up tonight’s TT with regards to podiums and league placings. It all amounted to the riders’ use of the two Ms….movement and positioning.  Let’s take a look at the results; they reveal more twists than a rattlesnake with a hernia.

Overall male winner on the night goes to A Thomas of LRCC, congratulations.   While overall winner for the ladies was Ruth Wilson (Racing Team Dawson) who is showing a great return to form.  I caught up with Ruth post-race and she wanted to thank all the marshals for their cheering during the TT. Duathlon Results 13th June

In the past some have accused me of my Race reports being a little tongue in cheek and maybe not as accurate as they could be. So to put the record straight I have written this one and can confirm all the details are as they should be:

“Quitters wear big knickers” Lincsquad TT Series Overlords Pam and Johns cunning plan

Back in January we were tucked up in front of a log burner in a cosy cottage in Portinscale, just outside Keswick. I was busy completing the registration form for the ‘Falcon’ middle distance triathlon, but there was something niggling away at me, namely the fact that the week after the ‘Falcon’ was to be the Keswick Mountain Festival. Rewind back to June last year and I’d competed in the standard distance triathlon at the Mountain Festival. The event ended up being a bit different from that which had been advertised, in terms of the distances and courses used, due to the atrocious weather the day before. Having only pitched up on the Sunday to do the event we realised that there had been a whole weekend of events and festivities from Friday through to Sunday, albeit some rather damper than others. That sparked the interest in coming back 12 months later to see what it was all about. Continue reading

Duathlon Results 30th May

Wednesday 30th May, 36 athletes prepared to battle the tough conditions of the Burringham duathlon training race. The 5th one in the series of 11 was a straight forward 2 / 14 / 1 which is not a real issue, the bank condition did not seem to cause to many problems (due to injury one runner is permitted to run on the road and an agreed time penalty has been applied). The fact that it was not raining was Ok, however the biggest problem was the wind, there wasn’t any. This is possibly the first time I have known there to be no wind blowing out on the course.

All 36 who started completed the training race, with two of these being new to the event.

The provisional results are attached. If you have any problems please contact Jeff via the usual route.

The next training race we meet at Flixborough industrial estate and we will be using a new route.

Once again many thanks to all the time keepers and to Pete for Marshalling the turn point.

Darren Hepworth being chased by a Beast! The Yorkshire Beast Sportive– 27 May 2018

Being a reluctant cyclist, attempting anything like doing 200 miles in 1 day was unthinkable 12 months ago. This time last year I was nervously training for the Coast to Coast in a day, and this time 2 years ago I hadn’t even done 100 miles in a day – Flat n Fast 2016 was my first ton, and it was a struggle.

Not being the best trainer, I realised that the C2C was a bit of a challenge, so I pulled my socks up and got some miles (and hills) in. Riding into Whitby on that sunny afternoon last June felt good, but I felt comfortable and had plenty left in the legs. I enjoyed it, but didn’t fancy doing it again the following year, and around this time we started seeing adverts saying “Can you tackle the Yorkshire Beast?” At first I thought it was a night out in Donny, but on closer inspection it was a 200 mile single day sportive, but I fancied it either way. Before I changed my mind I was all paid up, the challenge was on. Continue reading

Wind, more wind, punctures and a combine harvester, the setting for round 4 of Lincsquad’s TT

“5,4,3,2,1 good luck” was repeated 33 times by starter Anna Gibbs on the 23rd May 18:30.  This phrase alone, enough to raise the heart rate of each racer being held on the start line.  Holder upper, Kev Lovett, released 32 riders from the start line in one minute intervals.  These racers, now on their own and building speed, made their way along to the rail way lines where they were cheered on by Becky Rose and Duncan Wood, our first marshalls of the night
