Coast 2 Coast Twice in 2 Months

On Wednesday 9th May Chris Spavin will be starting his coast to coast run in memory of his little boy Leo who the world lost to childhood cancer last September..

Chris, by his own admission will be running/jogging and at times even walking 190 miles from St Bees to Robin Hood Bay over the 6 days. He will be following Wainwrights path, mainly trails, and isn’t very flat with 29135ft(8880m) of climbing.

Challenge 2 will be in June when Chris is joined by a team of British Steel colleagues will be cycling coast to coast from Seascale to Whitby 150 miles all in the same day. Another tough challenge with some steep climbs thrown in and around 4500m in total climbing and one which many Lincsquadders have completed or also be taking part in this year too.

Duathlon results 2nd May

The conditions down on the Burringham bank where perfect, the sun shone, the temperature around the 22 degrees with not a site or sound of the wind. The bank it’s self-looked as close to Bowling green quality as we could get (thanks to Mr F for cutting the grass in the rain earlier that day) so we knew we were in for a great training race.

The mood was good until some of the front runners in this year’s series realised that once again Scunthorpe triathlons Secretary Jeff Chappill was getting his trusty stead from the back of his car and setting up in transition. They knew that he was just back from a training camp and was at his peak, they could tell from the trim figure and tone ab’s that the training had gone well. They knew after he destroyed the field last year over the same distance they had to bring their A game just to keep close to him.

A Breezy Club Champs at The Early Brigg Sprint

The inaugural Lincsquad Club Champs took place on Sunday 29th April, as part of the Family Autos FastFWDSports Early Brigg Sprint Triathlon. Thirty-seven Lincsquad members took part, in what was for many, the first race of the season.
It wasn’t the warmest of spring days, and the ‘slight breeze’ made sections of the cycle and run routes rather challenging. However, all Lincsquadders completed the course with smiles on their faces, and a few even managed a course PB, despite the weather conditions. It’s always good to see a bit of friendly rivalry amongst members, and to watch the inevitable ‘races within the race’ unfold.
The support from marshals and Lincsquadders was, as ever, fantastic. And the ‘high fives’ and words of encouragement from fellow club members on the run, really lifts your spirits. Continue reading

PB’s Galore at Round 2 of the Linsquad TT Series

TT report 25/04/18

“Don’t worry, you are only there in case a train comes, and I don’t think we’ve have had one in years…”  Rob Walsh, in reply to Becky Hollis, 2018

29 riders gathered at the King William IV pub, Scawby Brook and raced from 18:30 on the 25/04/18.  The TT weather Gods dictated that wind speeds would be 14mph WSW with gusts of 23 mph.  It was a light showery evening, the temp was recorded at 13 degrees by the Met Office.  Thanks as always to the King Billy pub for being welcoming hosts.  Thanks also to our volunteer crew of timekeepers and marshalls, including Wayne Beedham, for giving up your time to ensure the smooth running of the second round of Lincsquad’s TT Series.  Thank you Rob Walsh for taking the monies and thanks Tony England for expertly holding our racers on the start line. Special thanks go to Nigel Pennington for the amazing pictures of the riders and spectators which may be found on Lincsquads FB page.

1st place overall on the night was Josh Jones of Sports Lab, with a time of 20:54, congratulations on your result.  1st place overall for the ladies on the night goes to Alison Schofield who rides for Barton Wheelers, a storming time of 25:37 many congratulations Alison.

1st Male for Lincsquad on the night with a PB went to Rich Robinson, an amazing time of 21:35.  Many congratulations Rich.  Second and third places for the males of Lincsquad went to Steve Grocock (22:07) and Ben Creasy (22:08)  Ben’s third place was an impressive PB and only a second behind Steve, the competition is on.  Josh Blackley came in in an impressive time of 28:16, congratulations on your PB!  Darren Hepworth was spotted waiting for the train to come.  He recovered well from this interruption in his race coming in with a time of 26:50; ironically placing 14th overall on the night.  Placing 18th out of 30 riders on the night in a time of 27:48, while also recording a PB was Jacob Riby.  Congratulations Jacob.  Hot on his heels was M Walsh, congratulations. Graham Ellwood’s Report from the Hottest London Marathon on Record

Time to gather my thoughts after an amazing weekend at the London Marathon. I put a lot of training in to prepare for this event, over 900 miles for the year before the day itself. Wasn’t sure the speed was there, but my heart rates for any given pace were at an all time low, which gave me hope the sub 3 was on. Leading up to the last few days the forecast was not good, they were expecting record temperatures and suggesting you need to revise you goals down accordingly.

Duathlon results 18th April

Well what a difference two weeks can make to the weather. A lovely warm summer night shone on the 59 athletes who entered the second in the Scunthorpe Triathlon clubs training race series.

Some new faces, and some very old, all race as hard as they could to complete the 2ish 13ish 1 mile course (with yet another new run route set out by the Club Chairman Jason Frary).

Once again some amazing results, with 6 minutes separating the top 14 men and 10 minutes for the top 5 women.

Two weeks-time should see us return to Burringham for the third training race which is the Handicap.

We are also taking charity donations for this year’s worthy cause so if you could spare a few Quid we would be very grateful.

Attached are the final results from training race 1 and the provisional results for training race 2.

2018 Training race 1 results

As always if you have any problems with the results please contact me direct at jeff.chappill@hotmail.com as no post on either the Lincsquad forum or Facebook will be responded to.

Lincsquad Flying at Scampton

It had been a last minute decision to take part in the Duathlon at Scampton in 2017 and only then so I could get onto the base to have look around, and hopefully see the Red Arrows. It was a fantastic event and the bike section was very fast, so I knew I was going to be booking again for 2018 (and NOT at the last minute, this time). Continue reading

Duathlon results 4th April

Wednesday the 4th April marked the return of the Scunthorpe Triathlon clubs Summer series.

Having had to have a last minute change of venue, due to potholes and road works, we hope for a lovely evening and the sun would shine down on all those who turned out. How wrong could we be, the heavens opened, the wind picked up, yet 42 people still signed on the dotted line to take part.

Our Time keepers and marshal turned out on mass to support the athletes and watch in amazement as they battled the conditions with the much heard “they must be mad” comment uttered under their breaths. Continue reading

Elizabeth Wood, Elizabeth could. Barcalona Marathon race report – “Vamoose Chica!”

Zurich Barcelona Marathon 2018

Vamoose Chica!

Having previously resisted any suggestions that I do a post event write up, for feeling like I might have nothing to say, I’ll just tell it like it happened and then reflect (oh, so very briefly) on lessons learnt. Continue reading
